Reason for Christ’s Return

The prophets had a lot to say about the Promised Land of Israel in the last days. What happened in the past will be true of the future as well.  Let’s see what will cause Jesus to return for the Battle of Armageddon.

The Lord said to Jeremiah in Jeremiah 33:24, “Have you not considered what these people have spoken, saying, ‘The two families which the Lord has chosen, He has also cast them off’? Thus they have despised My people, as if they should no more be a nation before them.”   Jeremiah 48:2 tells us that Moab devised evil against the land of Israel in Heshbon saying:   ‘Come, and let us cut her off as a nation.’

Psalm 83:3-4 has never been fulfilled and repeats this theme by saying, “They have taken crafty counsel against Your people, And consulted together against Your sheltered ones.4 They have said, “Come, and let us cut them off from being a nation, That the name of Israel may be remembered no more.”   Verses 6-8 tell us who is involved in this confederacy:

  • Edom =  Southern Jordan
  • Ishmaelites = All Arabs
  • Moab = Central Jordan
  • Hagrites = Egypt
  • Gebal =Lebanon
  • Ammon = Northern Jordan
  • Amalek = Esau’s descendants – Jordanians and Arabs
  • Philistia = Gaza Strip
  • Tyre = Phoenicia = Southern Lebanon
  • Assyria = Syria and Iraq is allied with them too to reinforce the Children of Lot (Plains of Jordan)

Amos 1:13 suggests the reason for Ammon’s involvement is not only to cut Israel off from being a nation but so that they might enlarge their territory.

Today we see the hatred that is cultivated among Israel’s enemies in the Middle East.  This hatred is wrong yet it is growing daily.

Daniel 11:36-39 describes who the Jews believe to be Antiochus Epiphanes IV: “Then the king [of the north] shall do according to his own will: he shall exalt and magnify himself above every god, shall speak blasphemies against the God of gods, and shall prosper till the wrath has been accomplished; for what has been determined shall be done. 37 He shall regard neither the God of his fathers nor the desire of women, nor regard any god; for he shall exalt himself above them all. 38 But in their place he shall honor a god of fortresses; and a god which his fathers did not know he shall honor with gold and silver, with precious stones and pleasant things. 39 Thus he shall act against the strongest fortresses with a foreign god, which he shall acknowledge, and advance its glory; and he shall cause them to rule over many, and divide the land for gain.”  Even though this prophecy seemed to be fulfilled perfectly by Antiochus Epiphanes, Jesus indicated in Matthew 24:15 that the abomination of desolation would come in the future so this plan to divide the land for gain is a prophecy for the last days. The foreign god mentioned here is the god of Islam.

As you can see, the reason for the battle of the last days will be over the right of ownership of the land of Israel. This goes back to the time of Jacob and Esau! This is a fulfillment of Biblical prophecy!

Islamic jihad is not just to eliminate the Jews and to take the land of Israel.  It comes from a desire to dominate the world.  This is now taking place in America step by step as a result of political correctness but will also happen steadily as the population growth of Muslims increases and the rate of population growth of non-Muslims continues to decline.  As this takes place, the time for the rise of the Antichrist will be ripe. Shariah law will eventually replace our constitution.

For now we need to understand that Islamic jihad is waged against those in the West because the largest concentration of true Christians in the world is in America and because in the past America had been a strong ally of Israel.  Ultimately Islamic jihad is fought against Jesus, the Lamb of God.  Since this is the case, Islamic jihad originates from Satan.

Remember, who ever fights against Israel, will be fighting against Jesus. Isaiah 66:15-16 describes the Battle of Armageddon this way: “For behold, the Lord will come with fire And with His chariots, like a whirlwind, To render His anger with fury, And His rebuke with flames of fire. 16 For by fire and by His sword The Lord will judge all flesh; And the slain of the Lord shall be many.”  This should remind you of Revelation 19:11-16.

Isaiah 66:18-21 explains the reason for Jesus’ return and what will happen after the battle: For I know their works and their thoughts. It shall be that I will gather all nations and tongues; and they shall come and see My glory. 19 I will set a sign among them; and those among them who escape I will send to the nations: to Tarshish and Pul and Lud, who draw the bow, and Tubal and Javan, to the coastlands afar off who have not heard My fame nor seen My glory. And they shall declare My glory among the Gentiles. 20 Then they shall bring all your brethren for an offering to the Lord out of all nations, on horses and in chariots and in litters, on mules and on camels, to My holy mountain Jerusalem,” says the Lord, “as the children of Israel bring an offering in a clean vessel into the house of the Lord. 21 And I will also take some of them for priests and Levites,” says the Lord.”

Obadiah 17-18, 21 sums things up quite well: “But on Mount Zion there shall be deliverance, And there shall be holiness; The house of Jacob shall possess their possessions. 18 The house of Jacob shall be a fire, And the house of Joseph a flame; But the house of Esau shall be stubble; They shall kindle them and devour them, And no survivor shall remain of the house of Esau,” For the Lord has spoken. … Then saviors shall come to Mount Zion To judge the mountains of Esau, And the kingdom shall be the Lord’s.”

Before these things can happen, Israel (all of God’s people –- both natural and grafted branches) will be judged.  The reasons are found in Amos 2.  It is clear that we must repent of our sins and trespasses. We must embrace and obey Torah because in the end, only those who are meek and righteous will inherit the land of Israel (Psalm 37:11, Matthew 5:5, Psalm 37:29).

Please take time to suggest how we can survive and respond to Israel’s enemies in the last days as we wait for the Lord’s return.

The Battle of Armageddon will eventually come to pass in order to fulfill prophecy.  In the meantime, will you stand in support of the land of Israel by interceding for Israel as Islamic jihad continues?

Despite what Israel’s enemies desire and do, Isaiah 60:21-22 prophesies, “Also your people shall all be righteous; They shall inherit the land forever, The branch of My planting, The work of My hands, That I may be glorified.  22 A little one shall become a thousand, And a small one a strong nation.  I, the Lord, will hasten it in its time.”
